Vector Laboratories streptavidin and avidin reagents are highly purified and possess very low non-specific binding properties. They have a high affinity for biotin and can be used to detect biotinylated secondary antibodies and other macromolecules in applications such as immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. Chromogenic signals can be amplified using biotinylated secondary antibodies followed by HRP-labeled streptavidin or avidin. Horseradish Peroxidase Streptavidin (HRP Streptavidin) is produced by a coupling procedure that preserves the high specific activity of the peroxidase. Using biotinylated primary or secondary intermediates and peroxidase-labeled streptavidin, antigens can be localized in histological sections, cytospin preparations, or smears.
