In accordance with ASTM D 36, E 28, and D 2398 tests
Shouldered ring-and-ball apparatus for softening point determinations according to ASTM D 36, E 28, and D 2398. Apparatus consists of beaker with shelving, balls, rings, cover. Samples are held within horizontal rings. Steel balls are placed on top of samples. As sample, which is submerged in water, is heated, weight of ball forces softened sample downward. Softening point is temperature at which sample falls 1 in. (2.5cm) to bottom shelf. Apparatus comes with two standard balls, two 01-571 shouldered rings, 02-540N beaker, two shelves (1 in. [2.5cm] apart) with support rods, metal cover and 01-572-5 ball retaining rings.
